‘Image of the Infinite’ Single & Video Release

After an overwhelming preorder start for our upcoming album ‘The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean’, we avidly give you its 2nd single & video output; ‘Image of the Infinite’, again featuring Sylvaine‘s Kathrine Shepard as guest vocalist, though more prominently this time – immensely contributing to the song’s ethereal peacefulness. contrasts the album’s bleak nature, giving it a glimpse of kindness; an empyrean spark that promises a healthy share of balance and beauty to the dark waters of ‘Old Ocean’.

Join us for the music video premiere, once again created by myself, under the banner of Eye of SAROS.

What began as a devious & arty experiment with 2017’s “The Maldoror Chants: Hermaphrodite”, is being perpetuated and steered into new strange lands with “Old Ocean” – an attempt to capture that delicate spirit of the ultimate creativity inherent in Lautréamont’s 19th century writings “Les Chants de Maldoror” & translate & reshape that very spirit onto the aural spheres. But make no mistake; “Old Ocean” is not musically bound to its predecessor any more than it is to any other Schammasch record. Instead it conjures its very own cosmos, as they all strive to do. And this time that is, above all, an oceanic one. A cosmos of solitude & longing, of melancholy & dark romanticism, of abstraction & escape – characteristics that we hope will offer you a haven of tranquility in these most boisterous of times in which we live.

We now invite you to dive head-on into the deep, dark waters of They Have Found Their Master, the album’s first single output premiering now on streaming platforms along with my very own visual adaption, offering a significant dose of insight to the creative direction this new chapter is headed for. Enjoy.

15th Anniversary

The coming year will be a year of progress & retrospect alike.
While the second half will be fully dedicated to the release of our 6th studio effort, the first half will lead us back to our humble beginnings.
April 2024 will not only mark our 15th anniversary united under the name Schammasch, it will also be the 10th anniversary of our second album “Contradiction” – the album that was, in so many aspects, itself a beginning – a beginning of professional relationships, of lasting friendships as well as of artistic challenges & human hardships equally important to our history.
In light of this, we invite you to join us in our hometown Basel on the 6th of April, for an ample celebration of that surreal & ecstatic journey we travelled together for the then past 15 years. We will be performing an exclusive one-time set including songs from Contradiction that are likely not to be played live anymore in the foreseeable future.
Keep in mind, tickets are limited.
Joining us, our brothers in arms BØLZER, unleashing their primordial wall of aural might & our dear friends Horresque, giving you a taste of their bone-crushing blackened death metal.
This event is presented by Basilisk Deströyers, District 19, Meh Suff! & Sudhaus Basel

“Innermost, Lowermost Abyss” Video Premiere

Innermost, Lowermost Abyss is the fourth, and fittingly, last visual extension of our latest album ‘Hearts of no Light’, translating the aural journey to the abyss of Dionysus onto the screen. Creating this piece was quite a challenge, since It meant diving into a completely new creative space, speaking from a technical point of view. Oftentimes this was a journey to points of zero in its own way, and much like the music itself, it evolved slowly, step by step. Ever since ‘The Supernal Clear Light of the Void’ I’ve thought about the idea of having an instrumental piece translated into kind of a psychedelic visual trip, but the resources necessary for doing that with a 33 minutes piece of music just wouldn’t allow it. One day last year, during a forest hike, it struck me to do exactly that for ‘Innermost, Lowermost Abyss’, so I started working on it right away. It was finished about 10 months later. While being aware that not all of our listeners enjoy our walks on the wild instrumental ethno/tribal/ambient side (not that this would ever stop us from doing anything in any way), the ones among them who do will certainly appreciate the result. To them we’d like to say a word of advice for the best potential watching experience: take a moment and a few deep breaths to empty your mind beforehand, shut yourself off from outside distractions and focus on the center of the screen for the whole duration.

“Ego Sum Omega” Video Premiere

Almost a year has passed, since the release of Hearts of No Light. Many things that should have followed the album’s release fell victim to the pandemic, yet we were fortunate enough having been given a very narrow time frame to be able to realize one of these things — the visual extension of ‘Ego Sum Omega’, filmed in the harsh, majestic & breathtakingly beautiful mountains of Switzerland’s Engadine, parts of it in the magical forests of Sils-Maria, chosen accordingly, in connection to the song’s thematic. Words can never do justice to this place, but do see for yourself:
